There is no substitute when it comes to the soft and velvety finish of real suede but suede is leather which can also get dirty easily especially if they are dark colored. Usually brushing them with a suede brush will do the job and your beautiful suede footwear are as good as new but after some long time of usage, they tend to get dirt, oil, grime, and moisture sicked in the fibers of suede, which need proper cleaning which is also very easy process than we think it is.

Before getting into the cleaning steps just make sure your good suede shoes are completely dry. Working on the dampened suede shoes will only make them look worse. Try to soak as much moisture as you can before letting them dry naturally.

Never force them to dry with a hairdryer or high heat as high heat damages the leather. Just let them dry on their own with their pace.

Once they are fully dried, let’s jump into the cleaning steps.

Cleaning steps-

Step 1

Clean the loose dirt with the help of a suede brush. You can also use a toothbrush. Try to clean in the direction of the naps flow. Gently rubbing the brush to and fro will help remove loose dirt and grime.

Step 2

To clean the small marks rub them with a suede eraser or with a clean normal pencil eraser. Work it to and fro gently without much pressure.

You can also use a nail file to remove stubborn dried stain marks but only do it if it’s really necessary.

Step 3

To clean tough spots of stains, dip a clean microfiber cloth in vinegar and wrap it around your finger to clean the spot gently.

Vinegar will darken the color of the spot when it is dampened but do not worry it will come to its original appearance once dried.

Once it is dried clean the surface with a dry cloth.

Step 4

Now you have to prepare a solution by mixing ¼^th of vinegar in ¾^th of water and spray this solution on a suede shoe using a spray bottle.

Make sure to evenly coat the shoe with a thin layer of solution. Do not soak them in solution, you just have to dampen the surface of the suede.

Now let it sit on the surface for a few hours. Then clean it off with a brush and all the dirt and grime will come off easily along with the solution.

Now you can apply a reputed suede protection spray to prevent future stains and moisture damage. (this is completely optional- you can go for it if your shoes are from a big brand or valuable).
